I was reflecting on a story that a professor shared with our class from a previous fourth year Education student she said that she was in survival mode and therefore I didn’t really retain anything during my last year of study.
I’m also beginning to feel a lot like that, where my education has just been about getting things done and my personal well-being has definitely suffered due to this (especially the amount of sleep I have been getting)!

This made me reflect on how often this happened to me in my schooling career. How often have you had information go in one ear and out the other during a boring lecture? Or cramming frantically for a test the night before, only to know that the information would be gone after only a few weeks?
So I questioned myself- as a student what changes would I want be made so that this could be changed? I came up with these answers:
1. Flexible due dates (this is so work isn’t all due at the same time)
2. Have work spread evenly throughout the semester (I hate when everything is due the last few weeks)
3. Have assignments which are meaningful and engaging
4. Have reasonable standards for length and standards for assignments
5. Have a marker who is fair (not overly critical) and explains marks through comments
6. Be involved in the assessment Have options to drop lowest mark, assign percentages to projects, use self-assessment,or be able to have a conversation about the mark you deserve
7. Have a teacher who is available and willing to help
These are some things I hope to carry into my own teaching. Any suggestions of things I missed?
